Walking on the ancient stones of Via Egnatia was an unforgettable experience.
Step after step, I found myself walking on the same cobblestones that were built by Roman engineers and once carried Illyrian armies, Roman legions, traders, and travelers centuries ago. Feeling those stones still beneath my feet made history come alive in a way no book ever could.
Surrounded by nature and silence, it was impossible not to reflect on the countless journeys made along this road before mine.
Moments like this remind me that hiking is not just about landscapes, it is about connection: with the land, with history, and with the people who walked it long before us.
On Via Egnatia, every stone tells a story.
Stretching for over 1,100 km, the Via Egnatia once connected Durrës on the Adriatic Sea with Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul), serving as one of the Roman Empire’s most important routes between East and West.
